Her crossings & round-the-world tour

Maud Fontenoy - Her crossings & round-the-world tour

North Atlantic (2003)

In 2003, Maud rowed the North Atlantic from West to East, single-handedly and with no assistance. This was a female first and covered 6,700 km in 117 days.

The Pacific – barehanded (2005)

In 2005, she took up the same crazy challenge in the Pacific between Peru and the Marquesas Islands in 73 days – 7,000 km alone and without assistance. Time Magazine named her one of Europe’s Heroes of the Year.

Around the world against prevailing currents (2007)

In 2007, Maud became the first woman to sail around the world against prevailing currents, setting off from and returning to the island of Réunion. She completed her tour 150 days later, having survived a near-fatal dismasting in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
